Caldwell County investigators have made two arrests, but are still investigating a multi-victim shooting that left three men recovering from gunshot wounds at Brackenridge Hospital early this month.

On Sept. 4 at around 7:40 p.m., Caldwell County deputies and members of the Chisholm Trail Special Crimes Unit, along Prec

inct Three Constable Margarito Zapata, Jr., responded to a complaint of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon near the intersection of Highway 80 and Plant Road in Prairie Lea. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered two gunshot victims, Dedrick Lott, 36, and Zachary Acosta, 19, both of San Marcos. Both were transported to Brackenridge Hospital after being treated by Luling EMS.

Lott was subsequently arrested and had bond set at $5,000 in connection with the incident.

Further investigation led authorities to the 2800 block of Plant Road, where they discovered a third victim, 33-year-old Orvis Lee Davis. Davis said Lott and Acosta had entered his home and assaulted him, at which time he retrieved a shotgun and returned fire.
Davis was transported to Brackenridge Hospital via helicopter.

Representatives of the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office reported on Tuesday that Acosta had been arrested that day, but bond for his release had not been set at press time.

The Chisholm Trail Special Crimes Unit, formerly the Chisholm Trail Narcotics Task Force, continues to investigate the altercation, which authorities believe may be either narcotics or gang related.

“The Special Crimes Unit has the ability to, and will call on our counterparts in the FBI, DEA and Marshal Service, along with DPS and our local law enforcement agencies to keep these gangsters out of Caldwell County,” Sheriff Daniel C. Law said on Tuesday.

Anyone with information on the altercation is encouraged to contact the Special Crimes Unit at (512) 398-6777 ext. 204.
