Two area cities recognized for job creation efforts
Senator John Cornyn”s office announced this week that both the City of Luling and the City of Creedmoor are among the first cities to received funds from the Microenterprise loan fund.
The Microenterprise Loan Program is a $1 million initiative awarded by the Office of Rural Community Affairs that offers grants

to eligible cities and counties to contract with a non-profit organization for the purpose of establishing a local loan program that directly assists for-profit microenterprise businesses. ORCA”s Microenterprise Loan Program is supported by federal funds that come to Texas as Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The first presentation, to the City of Luling, will take place on Monday, March 27 at 9 a.m. ORCA Executive Director Charles S. Stone will join officials from the City of Luling at the Zedler Mill Community park to present a ceremonial check in the amount of $50,000, the award Luling received from the program.
Later, Stone and officials from Sen. Cornyn”s office will travel to the Creedmoor Community Center, where they will present City of Creedmoor officials with $100,000 check.
“ORCA is pleased to present these ceremonial checks [to the City of Luling and the City of Creedmoor] in recognition of their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit,” the Office of Rural and Community Affairs said in a written statement on Tuesday. “These grants offer a great opportunity for rural business owners to expand their operations.”
