The Lions Homecoming spirit was dampened Friday night when the Gonzales Apaches beat Lockhart, 6-0.
Head Coach Bryce Monsen said his team played hard but that turnovers spelled doom for the Lions.
“They played hard,” Monsen said. “It is hard to win if you keep turning the ball over.”
The Lions had eight fumbles during the contest.
“We are very proud o

f our team. They played hard during the entire game,” Monsen said.
“We are really proud of the fan support we received. The kids even mentioned how nice it was for all the fans to come out and support them.”
The long night for the Lions started when the opening kickoff was fumbled away to Gonzales.
The Apaches took quick advantage of the miscue, capping a 32-yard drive with a 16 yard TD strike from Quarterback Josh Gray to Wide Receiver Houston Grier. The Apaches had the only score of the contest with 9:07 left on the clock in the first quarter. Gonzales tried for a two-point conversion but was turned back by a stiff Lion defense.
After the early first quarter score, neither team could break the 20-yard line for the duration of the contest.
