Maryanne Cardwell Cochran, 91, passed away at The Manor in Morrisville, Vt., on April 14, 2016. Maryanne was born on Dec. 4, 1924, in Lockhart, Texas to Walter Wilcox Cardwell and Annie McCurdy Cardwell. She graduated from Luling High School in 1942 and from the University of Texas in 1946 with a Bachelors degree in English. She taught junior high and high school English for th

e next 15 years in Luling and Corpus Christi, Texas. She earned her Masters degree in English from the University of Texas in 1961.

On June 11, 1960, she married David Monroe Cochran, whom she had known since the age of 10. They relocated to Austin and had two children, Virginia Cochran Kerrigan and David M. Cochran, Jr. Maryanne and David joined Covenant Presbyterian Church in 1965 and were active members of the church for over 45 years. Maryanne was a member of the Austin Alumnae Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha and of Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed these organizations and treasured the friendships made in them. They enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, Newfoundland, and all over Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, David Monroe Cochran; daughter, Virginia Cochran Kerrigan and husband, Barry, of Stowe, Vt.; son, David Monroe Cochran, Jr., and wife, Miranda Grieder, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; grandchildren, Katie and Charlie Kerrigan, and Liam Cochran. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Martha Cardwell Gillespie; and brothers, Walter W. Cardwell, Jr. and James William Cardwell.

Services will be held on May 28, 2016, at 2 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Luling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 531, Luling, Texas, 78648.
