A Valentine’s Day errand to the McMahan General Store ended in arrest for a Pflugerville pair who were reported for suspicious activity when they were found asleep in their car.

David Glenn Wendland, 50, and Donna S. Stephens, 43, were reported by a clerk at the McMahan General Store to have been asleep i

n their car for several hours in the parking lot. The clerk opted to flag down a Caldwell County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the area, who separated and spoke with the subjects, who allegedly gave conflicting stories.

The deputy asked to search the vehicle, but both denied consent for the search.

Because of the suspicious nature of their behavior and their conflicting stories, the deputy opted to contact the Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit to search the area.

Arriving on scene, the K-9 performed a “free air sniff” search on the external area of the vehicle, and yielded a “positive odor response,” and probable cause to search the vehicle. That search yielded approximately half an ounce of high-grade marijuana, and a quarter ounce of methamphetamine.

Additionally, paraphernalia including pipes and a scale were found in the vehicle.

Wendland and Stephens were both arrested and transported to the Caldwell County Jail, where they were booked on charges of Possession of Marijuana (less than two ounces), a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1, 4 oz. – 200 grams), A Second Degree Felony.

The investigation continues this week, and representatives from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said that additional charges may be pending.

To report illegal or suspicious activity in your area, contact the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at (512) 398-6777. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
