Michael E. Masur, 59, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007, at South Austin Hospital. He was born on Feb. 3, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to EB “Hoot” and Allie Grace (Blackwell) Masur.
He was preceded in death by his father Hoot Masur and grandparents Allie and Claudia Blackwell and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Masur all of Lockhart and his father-in-law

, Floyd Mumme of Alice.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Masur; son, Wes Masur and wife Candace; daughter Mandy Holcomb and husband John; mother Allie Grace Masur all of Lockhart. He was also known as “Papa” by his two grandchildren; Morgan McKinzie Masur and Trent Edward Holcomb. He is also survived by mother-in-law Ruby Mumme of Alice; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and four other special young men he considered his “other” sons.
Mike graduated from Mathis High School and then attended Uvalde Junior College, Texas A & I University, and Bee County Jr. College. Mike was employed by the State of Texas for 32 years. Working with law enforcement and serving as the Superintendent of Lockhart State Park for 27 of those years.
He loved to rodeo in his younger days and later participated in events with the Texas Police Officer Rodeo Association. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoor life, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his animals. He especially enjoyed large family gatherings and long visits with family and friends.
After retiring from Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Mike enjoyed his cattle, some fishing and hunting and of course visiting twice daily with his Chisholm Trail Coffee Shop friends. Mike’s family was always the most special part of his life. He felt great satisfaction with the way his life had unfolded and said he would not have changed anything especially his relationships with his two children and all the pride and joy they brought to his life.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, 2007 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hahn officiating. Interment followed at Lockhart City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bubba Haun, Bobby Barboza, Kenneth Willenberg, J. Hess, Scott Snyder, Richard Martinez, Earl Hagan, Lamar Greenwood, Gerald Kearney, Ray Thaler, Dale Snyder and Bruce Mumme.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lockhart or the American Heart Association.
