Mildred Allen Nix, of Garland, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on July 27, 2007. She was born on July 10, 1910, in Stockdale to Wilson and Tima (Martin) Allen.
Mrs. Nix is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sidney Oran Nix; brothers, Hermon Allen and Marcus Allen; and sisters, Myrtle Cooper and Loyce Read.
She is survived by her loving son Paul N

ix of Garland, Texas; nieces, Jane McDaniel of San Marcos, Carolyn Miller of Gonzales, and Harriett Layne of Novato, Calif.; a half-brother, Dr. Pat Allen of Fredrick, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Nix was born in Stockdale and moved with her family to San Marcos, Texas when her older brother was ready to attend SWTSTC. She was a graduate of San Marcos High School and lettered on the girls” basketball and track teams. After graduation, while visiting her brother Hermon and his wife Sarah, in Dale at a social gathering, Mildred met her future husband, Oran. They married in January 1935 in San Marcos, and moved to Lockhart, later purchasing their first house on Fir Street. Her husband served as the Assistant County Tax Assessor in Lockhart until WWII when he enlisted in the Army. They moved to Houston in the later 1940″s and Mr. Nix was head of Plant Accounting, with Houston Lighting and Power, at the time of his death in May 1962.
Following her husband”s death, Mrs. Nix and her son Paul, moved to San Marcos.
In San Marcos, Mrs. Nix opened a Merle Norman Cosmetics Shop, which was located in with Cooper Cleaners. She was in business until 1975 at which time she retired. After retiring, Mrs. Nix moved back to Lockhart, living on West Prairie Lea Street until she moved in 1985 to live with her son Paul, in Garland.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Nix”s name to the Buckingham Road Church of Christ, Garland, Texas or Lockhart Church of Christ.
Family received friends at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Interment followed at Bunton Cemetery.
