The Texas Public Utility Commission reminds telephone users in the 512 area code that 10-digit-dialing will be required for all calls effective June 1, 2013.

After Saturday, 10-digit-dialing will be required for all local calls, even those within the same “prefix” area. The change is the result of the u

pcoming introduction of a new 737 area code, which will serve the same geographic region as the current 512 area code.

Information released by the Public Utility Commission this week indicates that new phone numbers issued after July 1, 2013, will likely be assigned the 737 area code, and will also require 10-digit-dialing. However, existing phone numbers are not expected to be migrated to the 737 area code, and should remain the same.

For more information, see the notice from the Texas Public Utility Commission here.
