Dr. J. Tom Connolly
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Dr. J. Tom Connolly. Tom passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday evening, Sept. 28, 2014.
Born March 13, 1933 to James Edward and Jessie Mary McMillan Connolly, Tom grew up and spent much of his adult life in Lockhart. Upon graduation from Lockhart High School, he attended Texas A&M University (Class or ’55)
and completed his formal education at Baylor University College of Medicine.
Dr. Tom, as he became known to so many, was a shining example of a servant’s heart. Choosing a professional life of service as a physician, he began by serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander Intern in the United States Navy. He returned to Lockhart to build his private practice of 35 years. Although he closed his practice in Lockhart, he continued his professional service in a variety of medical roles.
Tom served his community throughout the course of his life in numerous capacities, including tenured position on the Board of Directors of Lockhart National Bank, Member of Lockhart ISD School Board, medical physician for Lockhart High School football program, various committees at First United Methodist Church of Lockhart, and coaching his children’s sports teams.
At his core, Tom was devoted to those he loved most. He joins our Heavenly Father and his parents, James Edward and Jessie Mary McMillan Connolly; and his brother, James Edward “Mack” Connolly. Surviving Tom are his wife, Patricia Ann Price Connolly, of Austin; his children: Lisa Kay Helin, of Marietta, Ga., Robin Steele of Dacula, Ga., Edward Connolly, of Georgetown, and Dan Connolly, of Austin; his step-son, Craig Johnson, of Austin; his grandchildren: Nicole Sandlin, of Moscow, Russia, Katherine Steele and Matthew Steele, of Dacula, Georgia, “Boomer” Connolly of Nashville, Tenn., “Mac” Connolly and Jessie Connolly, of Austin; his great-granddaughter, Blakely Sandlin.
A memorial service celebrating Dr. Tom Connolly”s life will be held at First United Methodist Church-Lockhart on Monday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.
