Alex Blomerth
Elmer Alexander (Alex) Blomerth was received into the arms of his Lord and Master on Oct. 28, 2006. Alex leaves behind Jan, his bride of 58 years, son and daughter-in law, District Judge Todd Blomerth and Patti Payne, of Lockhart; daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Alton Finley, of Seneca, S.C.; and two grandsons, Matthew Austin Blomerth of Lockhart and Washington, DC, and
Cpl. Jeremy Ryan Brunson of Seneca, SC and Camp LeJeune, N.C.
Alex also leaves behind a family too large to list of people whose lives the Holy Spirit touched through his ministry, friendship, counsel, and encouragement.
Alex was born in Melrose, Mass. on Feb. 14, 1927. He grew up in Maine. After service in the Navy during WWII, he graduated from Texas A&M in 1948.
Alex and Jan began their adventure together the same year. Alex”s career as a geophysicist with Magnolia and Gulf oil companies took them to Roswell and Portales, N.M., Pittsburgh, Pa., McComb, Miss., Ft. Myers, Fla., and finally to Caracas and the oil fields of Venezuela.
Returning to the States in 1961, Alex embarked on his second career as an atmospheric physicist at White Sands Missile Range.
Alex left White Sands in 1975, and with others, he and Jan started KCIK, Channel 14, the first Christian TV station in El Paso. Contemporaneously, Missionary Radio Evangelism, International Christian Television, and Manna Tape Ministry came into being, all to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to El Paso, Juarez, and other parts of the globe.
Alex has been described as a “bulldog for the Lord.” There was never a more apt description. He was relentless in his belief that Christ”s message of grace and salvation was to be shared with others. People from as far away as Irkusk, Siberia, Panama, and Puerto Rico received that story. Alex”s gregarious personality, playful nature, and warmth of personality helped him witness to what God had done in his life. He blessed and was blessed by many, many friends throughout the world.
A celebratory memorial service and Eucharist was held at the Pro Cathedral Church of St. Clement, 810 Campbell, El Paso, Texas, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kathy Horn, MD, and the wonderful folks from VNA Hospice for their love and attention in Alex”s last days on this earth.
