Amelia “Millie” Mayo

Amelia “Millie” Mayo

Amelia “Millie” Galvez Mayo, 59, left us on March 1, 2012, to be with Our Lord and Savior. She was born in Lockhart, Texas, to Pete and Janie Galvez.

She is preceded in death by her father, Pete; sister, Alicia Galvez Camacho; her father-in-law, Francisco “Pancho” Mayo; mother-in-law, Manuela P. Mayo; brother-in-law, Jesse Mayo; nephews Patrick Degollado and Christopher Mayo; and her closest and dearest friend, Yolanda Peralez Ramirez.

She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 41 years, Joe Mayo; her children Brandon: Jacob, Jason and Alysia Mayo and her beloved Julian; her grandchildren, Gabriella Mayo and Christobal Martinez; her mother, Janie; her brothers, Adam (Mona), Gilbert (Sylvia), and Amado Galvez.

Millie was a loving, nurturing, generous and inspirational wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her greatest love was her family and she took great joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow and mature.

She was affiliated and employed with Lockhart ISD for over 20 years, where she formed numerous and long lasting relationships with those she met and worked with. Her heart was so big and her hands so generous. There aren’t very many Millie Mayos in this world and she will be desperately missed.

Her passing was unexpected and way too soon, but even so, she is leaving behind such a great legacy.

The family received visitors on Monday, March 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at DeLeon Funeral Home in Lockhart. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held later that evening at 7 p.m. at St. Mary of the Visitation Church in Lockhart, Texas. On behalf of her children, they ask that you pray with a heavy heart for tears of joy and comfort for all of those she touched.

I was saddened to hear of Millie’s passing. For many years I counseled children at Clear Fork and Millie was always very kind and helpful. We became friends and discussed our children and grandchildren often. She was a lovely lady and will be missed by many. I hadn’t seen Millie since my retirement from counseling last May but I have many fond memories of her and know she was a highly respected and loved friend and employee of the school district.
