Bernard Arthur Stueve passed into eternal peace on Oct. 14, 2009 in Conroe, Texas.

He was the youngest of four children and born to a German immigrant, Hermann F. Stueve, and Josephine Pfeiffer Stueve on Feb. 5, 1915 in Goforth, Texas.

Growing up in Lockhart, he worked on the family farm and played football at Lockhart High. One summer, he joined the CCC

and assisted other young men in building Bastrop State Park.

Ben continued playing football while attending St. Edwards University after graduating high school. In 1938, he married Media Pearl Lewis, and joined his father-in-law’s company as an oil field cementer. Since World War II brought the commercial oil industry to a halt, Ben and Media then traveled to Deming, N.M., where he was their Fire Chief for a few years.

After the war, they returned to Texas and settled in Victoria where he was the football coach at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. Ben was instrumental in taking his football players to a district championship.

The Stueve family moved to Austin and eventually retired 28 years later: Media from the IRS and Ben from the Department of Agriculture. His passion and loyalty to his family, his friends and his dogs was Ben’s greatest attribute.

His wife of 71 years, Media Pearl Stueve, recently passed on July 9, 2009.

Ben is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Parks and her husband, Daniel S. Parks, of The Woodlands, Texas; his son, Scott Andrew Stueve and his wife, Judith Stueve, of Smithville, Texas; grandchildren: Victoria Parks Fisler, and her husband, David Fisler, of The Woodlands, Tracey Parks Mosconi and her husband, Louis Mosconi, of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Kevin S. Parks, of Denton, Texas, and Nathan Stueve, of Portland, Ore.; great-grandchildren: Garret Fisler, Meredith Fisler and Christiaan Mosconi; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, on Nov. 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. Following mass, a blessing of the ashes and ground was performed at Lockhart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to The Heart of the Nation Sunday TV Mass, 1126 S. 70th, Suite N601, Milwaukee, Wis., 53214-3151.
