Berniece Evelyn Owen, 95 of Lockhart, formerly of Austin, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014. Berniece was born May 10, 1918, to John and Anner (Amason) Jackson in Laneport, Texas.

She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, where she met her husband Lavene on a blind date. They married and made their home in Aust

in and had one son.

She worked for the Williamson County ISD, Texas State Board of Pardons, and retired from the Texas State Board of Control. She was a member of the Texas Public Employees Association, did volunteer work with the Austin Senior Citizens, and was a member of Hyde Park United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one great-grandson; three brothers; and five sisters.

She is survived by her son, John Owen and wife, Ruby, of Lockhart, three grandchildren: Randy Owen and wife, Becky, of Cedar Park, Kristina Gorman of North Attleboro, Mass., and Stacie Schroeder and husband, Trey, of San Antonio; five great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Gilbert Owen, of Marble Falls.

Visitation was scheduled will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar with The Rev. Ralph Underwood officiating. Burial will be at Austin Memorial Park.
