Dr. Bob Gordon, 50, of Lockhart, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos.
Bob was born on Feb. 8, 1956, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Amos Merlon and Irene (Galvan) Gordon. He was married to Brenda White on Nov. 3, 2001, in McMahan.
Bob graduated from Roscoe High School in 1974. In 1978, he received his bachelor”s degree from

Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, where he majored in Biblical Studies and minored in Philosophy. During his time at Hardin-Simmons, Bob received the Olson Valedictorian Medal, the Biblical Studies Award and the Greek Language Award. He then received his master”s degree and later his doctorate degree in Theology from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. During the 1990s, Bob studied long-term healthcare at the graduate level at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, and in 2001, he received a bachelor”s degree in Computer Science.
Bob worked as the Assistant Executive Director and Administrator of Golden Age Nursing Home in Lockhart from 1995 to 1999. Bob was also the Pastor at McMahan Baptist Church from 1990 to 2002. Later in 2002, Bob became the Program Director for Business at Virginia College at Austin, where he directed the business program, hired and supervised other instructors and taught various computer-related courses until 2003. Most recently, Bob was the Training Coordinator in the Computer Resource Center at Texas State University in San Marcos.
Bob was a member of the First Lockhart Baptist Church where he taught the Praise I Sunday School Class and a Discipleship Class on Sunday evenings.
He was preceded in death by his father, Amos Merlon Gordon.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Gordon of Lockhart, and by his mother, Irene LeFever and husband Donnie of Roscoe.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at the First Lockhart Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Rodgers and Rev. Derald Dugger officiating. Interment followed in the Lockhart City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Trey Louk, Jim Clements, Tod Freeman, Ray Spencer, Jimmy Galvan and Clark Evans.
The family requests that memorials in Bob”s memory be made to the First Lockhart Baptist Church, 315 W. Prairie Lea, Lockhart, Texas, 78644.
