Minister Carl G. McClain (fondly referred to as “Darling” by our Mother) was born to Odell G. McClain and Edna M. Branch-McClain on Aug. 8, 1954 in Lockhart. He passed away on April 30, 2006.
He attended George Washington Carver Elementary. After desegregation, he attended Lockhart Junior High and graduated from Lockhart High School.
He played basketball and base

ball. Baseball was his love and he played the game well.
Carl joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized. He spent his life loving his family and friends. After a brief separation from the Church, he reunited with First Baptist and joined the Usher Board (which he loved). In 1992, he accepted his call into the Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna McClain; one sister, Joyce M. Brown; and one brother Harold E. McClain, Sr..
Carl leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, April McClain Rhodes; three sons, Carl Jr., Darius and Dylan; five grandchildren; two brothers, CSM Robert L. McClain of Lawton, Okla., and Alfred J. McClain of Lockhart; four sisters, Jacalyn J. Guyton, Iris J. Knight, (and husband Eugene Knight), Pat McClain Reed, Becky Spruells Carter; special brothers-in-law, Ira M. Guyton, and Willie Reed, whom Carl loved as big brothers; and special sister-in-law, Jerlene Garcia McClain. His extended family includes: Debra Washington, Officer Joy Gamble, Carl Phillip Jones, Armando Hernandez, special cousin and brother Ronnie J. Branch; uncles Ottis McClain, Steave McClain and Wilbert Branch and one aunt, Elizabeth D. Branch McClain.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. May 6, at First Baptist Church with Rev. T.L. Garner, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Hooks Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Guyton, Brent Reed, Gregory McClain, Jeff Guyton, Travis Branch and Ronnie Branch. Honorary pallbearers named were Brandon Branch, Vincent Henry Branch, Will Branch, Daryl McClain, Michael McClain, Jonathan McClain and Steave S. McClain. Arrangements with Eeds Funeral Home.
