Charley “Bubba” Williams, dignified, intelligent, loyal and kind, passed away on Jan. 4, 2009, at the age of 83. He was born on Jan. 28, 1925, in San Marcos to Oscar and Gertrude Williams.

Charley joined the Navy in 1943 and served in two major battles during WWII, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In 1946 Charley left the Navy and returned to San Marcos to become a funeral

directors assistant at Pennington Funeral Home, but Charley was much more than that to the Pennington family. Oscar, Charley’s father, was “boss” to Willard Pennington and Charley was “boss” to Bill Pennington. Charley was beloved by the Penningtons for 83 years; his loyalty to the family could never be questioned.
His kindness, love and generosity to family, friends and community is well known.

Charley loved San Marcos. He was active in the community by serving as commissioner of Urban Renewal, commissioner of the Fire Department and Police Department, served as chairman of the Housing Authority, Chairman of the Trustee Board at Wesley Chapel, member of King David Lodge #33, 33rd Degree Mason, Shriners of Mt. Carmel, Scout Master of Troop #110 and Commander of the American Legion Post #144.

When you think of Charley, remember his strength of character and what a goodhearted, happy, “full of stories” and loyal person he was. He will be missed by many.

His wife, Annette, preceded him in death.

Charley is survived by his sons, Ray Richard and William Richard, of San Marcos; nephew, Morris Williams of San Marcos; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Pennington Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with family present from 3 – 5 p.m. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in the Pennington Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.

Arrangements under the care and guidance of Pennington Funeral Home, 323 North Comanche, San Marcos, Texas, 78666. (512) 353-4311.
