David P. Moore

David Parrish Moore, 83, passed away on Aug. 3, 2015, at his home in Lockhart, Texas. He was born on Jan. 4, 1932 in Leon, Iowa to David Perlonzo and  Pauline Marie (Parrish) Moore.
David grew up in Leon, Lucas and Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Roosevelt High  School and Des Moines Technical High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1950. After high school

he attended Grand View Junior College in Des Moines, Iowa.
David joined the United States Army in 1952 and served for 22 years. David served in the Korean War, and was the recipient of several distinguished service awards. His career in the U.S. Army included stations as U.S. Army, CE, Surveyor in the 29th Survey Company, Japan; 72nd Survey Company in Liberia, Africa; Survey Chief for the Ethi-U.S. Mapping Mission in Ethiopia, Africa; taught surveying at the United States Army Engineering School in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and Survey Chief in the 524th Engineering Company at Ft..Hood, Texas. He retired in 1974, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer III.
David began his second career as a Texas registered public land surveyor in Killeen, Brennan, Gonzales and Lockhart, Texas. David retired from surveying in Lockhart, Texas after 20 years. He was a certified land appraiser and mapper for the Caldwell County Appraisal District for 11 years. He also served on the City of Lockhart Planning Commission. He was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Land Surveyors and a contributor of numerous articles in surveying publications. He was also was a significant contributor of information and restored survey equipment to the United States Army Engineer Museum in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. David was a volunteer EMT for the Lockhart Emergency Medical Service.
David met Helga Lucie Dobratz while in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany in 1956. They married in 1957 in Wertheim, Germany. They had three sons: David, who was born in Wierteim, Germany; John, who was born in Ft. Belvoir, Va.; and Donald, who was born in Tokyo, Japan. They were happily married for 58 years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, D.P. Moore and Pauline Moore; his sister, Mary Leal Handy; brother, Donald John Moore; and his son, Donald Alfred Moore.
David is survived by his spouse, Helga, of Lockhart, Texas; his sons, David (Nancy) Moore, of Savannah, Ga., and John (Kathy) Moore, of Round Rock, Texas; his sister Susan (John) Byrnes, of Plymouth, Minn.; his brother-in-law, William Handy; his sisters-in-law, Gerda (Carl) Kyellerson and Renate (Peter) Holman; his seven grandchildren: Rachael Carson Moore, Whitney Cameron Moore, Courtney Leigh Moore, Rachael Michelle Moore, Amanda Michelle  McLain, Stacy Allison Moore and Clayton Parrish Moore; and his nieces and nephews: Bill (Rochelle) Handy Jr., John (Marie Cesar) Handy, George (Susan) Moore, Donald (Nigott) Moore, Laura (Brent Gilroy) Moore, Robin (Mark) Kinerk,  Mark (Zoe) Byrnes, Matthew Byrnes, Bernard (Tanya) Gibbs, Stephen (Helen) Gibbs, Donald Gibbs, Patricia (Kurt) Ostberghaus and Diane Fogel, and their children.
Per David’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. Friends of the family may stop by or send condolences to Helga Moore at 1023 Bowie Street, Lockhart, Texas.
