Delores Scharschmidt

Delores Rae Halm Scharschmidt passed from her earthly life to her Heavenly life on Tuesday, April 1, after a yearlong battle with leukemia. Delores was born on Feb. 19, 1935, in Mendoza, Texas, to Monroe Halm and Hilda Erhlich Halm.

Delores attended Austin High and was an important caregiver to her two youngest siblings. On Nov. 13, 1954, Delores married Rudy Scharschmidt. Delores was the bookkeeper for Rudy’s Mendoza Garage and had that most important job of full time wife and mother to their three daughters. Throughout her girls’ school years she was an active homeroom mother, band booster and supporter of any activities that her girls participated in.

While in the Lockhart area, Delores and Rudy were active members of Trinity United Church of Christ in Niederwald. In 1983, Delores and Rudy moved to Gruene, Texas, near New Braunfels, where their new church home became First Protestant Church of New Braunfels. Very active in the church’s hospitality and altar preparation ministries, Delores made many life-long friends and touched many lives.

Delores never met a stranger and was loved by her neighbors, friends and family members. A loving caregiver to Rudy in his final years, Delores was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rudy in 2004,

Delores was also preceded in death by her dad, Monroe, mother, Hilda and younger baby sister, Esther; sister-in-law, Lanell Scharschmidt, and brother-in-law, David Dossey.
