Dorothy Beardslee Barber Fulps, 95, passed away on Aug. 18, 2013, at the Jefferson Nursing Home in Beaumont, Texas.

She was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Owassa Township, Mich., to Jessie Halsey Beardslee and Frank Beardslee, and moved to Texas at age seven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, ten of her siblings, her first husband, Roy Barber, second husband J. W. Fulps,

Jr., and stepson John Fulps, III.

Survivors include her children: Carolyn Hudler and husband, Raymond, of Beaumont, Roy Barber and wife, Liz, of Austin; step daughter-in-law Valerie Fulps, of Lockhart; grandchildren: Betsy Moore and husband, Randy, of Edmond, Okla., Brenda Hebert and husband, Roger, of Beaumont, Tracy Loughrey and husband, Mike, and James Trevino, of Austin, Celena Robinson and husband, Patrick, of Pflugerville, Connie Fulps, of Virginia, Dean Fulps and wife, Valerie, of Clear Lake, Stacie Philmon and husband, Jeff, Melissa Hudler and husband, Brandon Gouthier, Kim Hudler, and Aimee Loker and husband, Drew, of Beaumont; great-grandchildren: Waylon Hebert, of Lockhart, Matthew Hebert and wife, Robin, of Groves, Mark Hebert, of Washington D.C., Wendy and Benjamin Moore, of Edmond Okla., Ava and Nicholas Phìlmon and Flora Gouthier, of Beaumont, Johathan and Amber Fulps, of Clear Lake, Courtney Trevino, of Austin, Nicholas Morales, of Pflugerville, and Lauren Mendoza, of Austin; and great-great grandsons Chance Hebert, of Lockhart, and the expected birth of on Sept. 4 of Andrew Hebert, of Groves.

Although born in Michigan, most of her life was lived in central Texas. As a young wife and mother, she was active in the Dale Home Demonstration Club, youth 4-H Club and Dale Church of Christ. She started working outside the home at Lockhart Garment Factory, where she served as supervisor. Following that, she worked for Mercer’s Pharmacy, Dr. Tom Connelly, Rosenwassers clothing store and McCurdy Funeral Home, retiring at age 92. In later life, she was active in the Lockhart VFW and Ladies Auxiliary, serving in many capacities, and the Lockhart Church of Christ, where she was busy helping out where needed. She and J.W. loved to deer hunt and spent many weekends at the deer camp with dear friends. After the death of her husband, she moved to Beaumont to be closer to family.

Visitation was planned from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at McCurdy Funeral Home, with Minister Bob Hailey officiating. Interment will follow at Bunton Cemetery in Dale.
