Erma Rice, 90, of Lockhart, passed away on July 24, 2008, in Luling, Texas. She was born on Aug. 20, 1917, to John and Ada (Harris) Buckner, in Red Rock, Texas.
Erma was a member of the McMahan Baptist Church. She was active in various areas of the church. She taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School. Erma was married to her husband, Clyde Rice, in 1935. She worked at

the State of Texas Printing Office, in Austin. She also worked at several stores in Lockhart, as a sales clerk. Erma was also a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center Retail Shop, in Lockhart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ada Buckner; husband, Clyde Rice; nephew, Donie Shirley Buckner; brothers: Bill, Delton and Donie Buckner; and sisters: Pearl and Mae Buckner.
She is survived by nephews: Doug Buckner, and wife, Dorothy, of Lockhart, James Buckner, and wife, Verna Mae, of Blue, and Fred Buckner, and wife, Susan, of Fort Worth; nieces: Wyonda Johnson, of Elgin, Micky Turner, and husband, Dewey, of Bastrop, and Dell Clark, and husband, Bill, of Lockhart; special friend, Judy Kraft, of New Braunfels; 13 great-nieces and -nephews; and numerous great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at McCurdy Funeral Home, at 6 p.m. Services were held on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home, with Rev. Derald Dugger officiating. Burial followed at the Jeffrey Cemetery in McMahan.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to McMahan Baptist Church or American Heart Association, in memory of Erma Rice.
