Floyd Eugene Bowen, 76, a longtime resident of Lockhart, passed quietly in his sleep on May 8, 2016 in Lockhart, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Bowen was born March 10, 1940 in Seadrift, Texas, to John Edward and Della Pearl (Wallis) Bowen who preceded him in death, along with brothers, Ivan Bowen and Clark Bowen and sisters Lorraine Woodin and Myrta Nolin-Fox.
Floyd jo

ined the Navy before finishing school in 1957, and served honorably until 1963. A longtime Rio Grande Valley resident, he met and married Rosie Lorenzi of Edinburg, Texas on May 11, 1965. Mr. Bowen worked in the oil and gas industry until his retirement in 2005.
An avid barbecuer, his family and friends often stopped by to sit and chat and have a taste of good Texas brisket with all the fixings. Floyd could often be seen sitting on his front porch swing, watching the squirrels play in his beloved pecan trees, while pondering the deep blue sky.  Always mechanically inclined, he often had his head under the hood of a vehicle, his fingers busy putting together some engine or pump, a hammer or wrench at hand as he worked on a house project. And nearby, an endless succession of cups of coffee and cigarettes.
Mr. Bowen worked hard, loved his family, and was a strong, kind person to everyone. His irreverent humor would take the unknowing by surprise; while his eyes would gleam with mischief, and a grin would briefly appear on quirked lips. He could plunk out the odd tune, and would sing made up ditties to the littles. He loved hugs and pats on the back, a good back scratch, and trips to the shore.
Always a good listener, this quiet, strong family man will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie, of Lockhart; brothers, Jimbo Bowen, of Freer, Texas, and Jack Bowen, Sr., of Giddings, Texas: sisters: Juanita Brittain, of Crockett, Texas, and Teeny Blankenship, of McCamey, Texas; five children: Kenneth Keith Bowen and wife, Cecilia, Floyd “Bubba” Bowen, Jr., Lisa Pearl Bowen, Darrell Duane Bowen, and Julie Bowen and husband, Benjamin Craig; 11 grandchildren: Sarah, Ashley, Kathy, John, Scott, Justin, Amanda, Brianna, Eileen, Vincent and Desmond; and six great-grandchildren.
Floyd enjoyed spending time with his large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation was held from noon – 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at Eeds Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. Immediately follwing the service, interment followed to the Lockhart Municipal Cemetery.
Arrangement under the direction of Eeds Funeral Home, 408 S. Main St., Lockhart, Texas (512) 398-2343.
