On June 9, 2015, Heaven gained one of the last true Texas cowboys.
Gerald Sine Kearney passed away peacefully at home among family, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Grand Junction, Colo., on Dec. 17, 1946 but soon returned to his mother’s (Madge Kearney Jones’) hometown of Lockhart, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1965.
After graduating from Southw

est Texas State University, he worked for the Animal Health Commission and then spent several decades in the agricultural sales field as a regional manager selling products to farmers, ranchers, feedlots, and veterinarians throughout the Southwest.
Gerald was a free spirit, following the rodeo circuit, riding bare-back broncs, team roping, and always ready for adventure. He loved traveling, especially throughout Mexico, experiencing new cultures and new foods, never meeting a stranger. He had a unique talent for working with animals, a flair for story telling, jokes and negotiating, but his family was what he was most proud of.
He was a natural leader, with a strong work ethic and family values that he instilled upon his children,
Gerald is survived by his wife of 42, years Marty Kearney; his daughter Kima (Kearney) Wright and husband, Brad, of Austin; son Wesley Kearney and wife, Celty, of Brownwood; and four grandchildren: Canyon and Cashlyn Kearney and Jacob and Owen Wright.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Gerald’s memory to the charity of your choice.
