Gladys Lee Bowling, 96, died on April 12, 2011, in Oakhurst, Texas. She was born on July 14, 1914, in Spofford, Texas, and married Charles Edwin Bowling on July 17, 1937. She was a longtime member of the Baptist Church and belonged to the Tomball Eastern Star.

She was a homemaker during WWII, and after the war, she moved to Houston with her husband, Charles, and worked for S

ears for 20 years. Gladys was an excellent seamstress, she loved to paint, and did a great job with landscape paintings.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Sam and Ella Voigt; sister, Luella Durant; and brothers, Walter and Clifton Voigt

She is survived by her son, Carlton Leroy Bowling and wife, Teresa, of Oakhurst, Texas; daughter, Beverly Roberts, of Dallas; sister, Helen Franks; three brothers, Orbin Voigt, Charlie Voigt and William Voigt; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas, with Rev. Robert Horton officiating. Interment followed to Bateman Cemetery in Bateman, Texas.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Ray and James Bowling, and Wayne, Weston, Ross and Russell Voigt.
