Grace Eugenia “Grace Gene” Brown Payne, 92, was born March 8, 1914, in Caldwell County, Texas, to Ernest E. and Sadie Allen Brown. She died Jan. 6, 2007, in Luling, Texas. She married L.A. “Allison” Payne, Sr., on July 16, 1938, in Luling, Texas.
Mrs. Payne graduated from Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos, and taught high school English in Rocksprings, Tex

as, Carrizo Springs, Texas, Laredo, Texas, and Edna, Texas.
Grace Gene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, L.A. “Mike” Payne, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Jon E. Payne of Tucson, Ariz.; her daughter, Jean Kay Robbins and husband Chet of Round Rock; granddaughters Tracey Geye Selmon and husband Rod of Round Rock and Mary Alyson Geye of Los Angeles, Calif.; and great-grandchildren Sloan and Maddie Gold Selmon of Round Rock. She leaves a host of cousins and friends and former students who will never forget her impact on their lives.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, Luling, Texas.
