Janet Elaine Schmidt, 56, was called to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Austin on Aug. 25, 1950 to Helen Siemering Schmidt and Robert “Rabbit” Schmidt. Janet was a life-long resident of Creedmoor.

iederwald; mother Helen Schmidt of Creedmoor; brothers Jimmy and wife Brenda of Austin, and Bobby and wife Sue of Niederwald; sister Geri and husband Corkey Hass of Creedmoor; four grandchildren: Justin, Siara, Clayton and Caylee; loving nieces and nephews: Chris, Shelley, Emily, Sonny, Bud, Jamie and Tommy; great-niece and nephews: Taylor, J.P. and Nicolas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Robert Schmidli, Jr. in August 1982 and her father, Robert “Rabbit” Schmidt in August 1992.
Special thanks from Janet”s family to Carole Smith for all the unselfishness and friendship while caring for her dogs, Shadow and Smiley and to Apolonia Torres for bringing such happiness, laughter and companionship to Janet while assisting in her care taking.
Visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan, Lockhart, Texas. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, with interment following in the Lockhart City Cemetery. Officiating were Dr. C. Walter May and Pastor Roy Thoene, Janet”s cousin. Pallbearers were: Michael Gold, B.J. Germer, David Morris, Ronnie Plant, Richard Schmidt and Robert Wilhite. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Germer, Nathan Morris and Alton Phillips.
Memorial contributions may be made in Janet”s name to either Southeast Travis County Baptist Church, 5020 Turnerville, Rd., Creedmoor, Texas, or to Hospice Austin.
