Jeanette Pointer Daniel, of Lockhart, passed away peacefully on her 74th birthday, Saturday, July 13, 2013, surrounded by her loving family in Austin, Texas.

Jeanette was born to Clovis and Rose Lee Potts in Draketown, Ga., the second of five children. In 1952, her family moved to Texas. Meeting her first love in 1950, she married Junior Pointer in Baytown, Texas in 1955 whe

n he was home on leave from the Army. They began their lives as all military families do, moving several times before they settled in Baytown to start their family, and where they raised two daughters, Renna and Sonjah. In that community, they attended the Trinity Tabernacle church where they made life-long friends, with whom Jeanette remained in contact. It was during these years that she and her friend Jean Henry met and, among a series of other antics, enrolled in nursing school on a whim, giving her a career that changed her life and the lives of many others. She became a licensed vocational nurse and cared for many in her decades-long career working most closely with Dr. James Leininger and Dr. “Doc” Shoemaker.

In 1987, she lost her first love and soon met the man she would welcome into her large and close-knit family to stay. Jeanette and Phil Daniel were married in 1988 in Houston, Texas, recently celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Their retirement and grown children led them first to the small town of Splendora, Texas and then in 2007 to Lockhart, Texas, to be closer to their family. In Splendora they found a community that they loved, especially the Splendora Assembly of God, where they were both very active. In Lockhart, they made a warm and inviting home. Everywhere Jeanette lived, she made close friends and Lockhart was no exception.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her first husband, Luther “Junior” Pointer; daughter, Renna Reed Anchick; her parents, Clovis and Rose Lee Potts; and her brother, Gene Potts.

She is survived by her husband, Jessie Phillip “Phil” Daniel, III; daughter, Sonjah Pointer; stepdaughter, Katrina Daniel; her sisters and their husbands and families: Ginny Horton and Harold, and Wanda “Polly” Wheeler and Butch; her brother, his wife and their family, Steve Potts and Brenda; her grandson, his wife, and their three boys, Kirk and Clarissa Ridge, Noah, Asher and Fynnlan; granddaughters, Keenan Johnson and her husband, Joshua, and Haley Reed and her fiancé, John Serianni. It is also with great anticipation she was awaiting her soon-to-be-born great-granddaughter, Brianna Renna Serianni.

Our family also wishes to acknowledge and thank the compassionate staff of Seton Medical Center for the exceptional care our entire family received in recent weeks.

A memorial celebration of Jeanette’s life was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Splendora Assembly of God church at 13682 US Highway 59 in Splendora, Texas, 77372.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Seton Fund for the Seton League House in Austin, Texas who graciously houses the families of loved ones who are ill, as they did for our family

One of the truest friends I have ever known. I miss you dearly Jeanette and think of you every day. Happy you are no longer in pain but there is such a void in my heart. I was blessed to have known you.
