Jim Bob Marlatt, of Lockhart, passed away at the age of 72 on Jan. 13, 2016, at Regent Care Center in San Marcos, Texas after receiving a diagnosis of cancer a few weeks ago.

Mr. Marlatt was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1943 to Ed and Florence Marlatt.

He grew up in Austin where he met and married Carolyn Petrosky in 1967. Though the marriage did not last, he and Caroly

n were always very close, as best friends, relying on each other to his end.

Jim Bob lived life on his own terms. He was always quick to offer his advice and opinions in every situation. To those who knew him this was sometimes a frustrating yet enduring trait of his colorful character leading to many “Jim Bob” stories. He loved fishing, sports, hunting and farming. He kept up on current events by reading the newspaper cover to cover.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eddie and Ed Marlatt.

Jim Bob is survived by his three children, Terri Marlatt, of Temple, Kathy Smith, of Kyle, and Joe Bob (Amanda) Marlatt, of Lockhart; his grandchildren: Sheridan Smith, Tanner Conroy, and Baby Girl Marlatt to be born in April; and his step-grandchildren: Clayton Roberts, Colton Roberts and Kylie Roberts. He also leaves behind his siblings Terry (Mary Evelyn) Marlatt, Suzanne (Bill) Hays, Charlie (Belinda) Marlatt and Rocky (Cheryl) Marlatt.

Jim Bob wished to be cremated and his ashes spread in Port Mansfield, where he enjoyed many fishing trips. In remembrance of him you can crack open a cold Busch beer and fish the day away. Donations on his behalf may be made to the American Cancer Society.
