Lawrence Lackey

Lawrence David Lackey went to be with the Lord, his parents and friends in Heaven on Oct. 6, 2012 in Luling, Texas. He was born August 20, 1927 to Ivan Estil Lackey and Agnes Elizabeth Ernest at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He spent most of his younger days growing up in the Dale, Lockhart and Luling area before moving to California.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Bebe Crawford Lackey, of Luling, and three daughters: Patti Mosier, of Tennessee, Virginia Richie Bohanan (Jim), of Luling, and Cynthia Lackey (Phil), of Freer, Texas; one brother, Ivan Estil Lackey, Jr., of Tacoma,Wash.; seven grandchildren:  David, Sandra, Jaime, Cindy, Angie, Pamela and Philip; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Lawrence was very proud of his accomplishment in Austin’s 1948 Golden Gloves where he won the Open Division, Heavyweight Class and qualified for the State Meet in Fort Worth where he was decisioned in the semifinals for the heavyweight class.

He was known for his pool playing ability as he won many tournaments in the Luling area during the 70s. He was also proud that he could do almost anything as was indicated by the jobs that he had done during his life:  he worked in various positions in the oil fields, a bakery, owned a gas station, worked at several fence post companies, drove trucks for saw mills, but in his later years was known for working in Luling for Bairs’ Lease Service as a gauger/pumper.

The funeral services were scheduled at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Eeds Funeral Home, 408 S. Main St., in Lockhart, Texas, with Reverend Kyle Horton of the Anchor of Hope Christian Fellowship officiating. Serving as the pallbearers were: Phil Lackey, Philip Lackey, Jim Bohannan, Tommy Bohannan and  Christian Ritchie. Burial will follow in Bunton Cemetery at Dale Texas.
