Mrs. Lela Ward Miles, 93, of Lockhart died Jan. 4, 2016 in New Braunfels.
Mrs. Miles was born May 23, 1922 in San Antonio to Clyde Euclid and Laura Routh Kelley Ward. She was united in marriage to Charles Calvin Miles, Sr., on Dec. 31, 1949. Charles preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles “Tooter” Calvin Miles, Jr.,  in 2012, her

daughter, Peggy Lee Miles Stilp, in 2015, her great grandson, LCpl. Cody Robert Stanley, in 2009, her sons-in-law, Larry “Skipper” Stanley and Kevin Dawayne Koehler.
Mrs. Miles is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Judy Miles, of Baytown; daughters, Kelley Miles Koehler, of Lockhart, Routh Anne Stanley, of Lockhart, and Patsy Jo Miles, of Yoakum; brother, JW Ward, of High Rolls, N.M., sisters, Lillian Sites, of Georgetown, and Zora Simmons, of Dallas; nine grandchildren: Larry Stanley, Bob Stanley, James Stanley, Kim Miles, Kasi Miles, Chad Miles, Brian Miles, Jeff Miles and Tessie Martinez; 16 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lela graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She worked at the Brown Building in Austin as an Elevator Girl where she met many influential politicians including Lyndon Baines Johnson, whom she was related to. Lela also worked at Southwestern Bell, and later became a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Lela was a member of the Anchor of Hope Christian Fellowship and a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed many activities including traveling and shopping and hanging out with family and friends as long as she was the center of attention.
Viewing was held from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Eeds Funeral Home, where the family was present from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Eeds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Horton officiating. Interment will follow in the Lockhart City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Stanley, Bob Stanley, James Stanley, Chad Miles, Gilbert Martinez, and Ryan Smith
