Mabel Karstetter, 87, of Lockhart passed away on Oct. 30, 2005, at Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. She was born on Jan. 6, 1918 in Polonia, Texas, just outside of Lockhart.
Mabel was a member of the St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart. Her family was one of the first to settle in western Caldwell County in the 1800″s at Polonia Settlement. She was the grandda

ughter of Joseph Dzierzanowski and Veronica Zakoska, who were among the early Polish settlers of this area.
Mabel is survived by five brothers. They are Richard Dzenowski and wife Paula of Lockhart, Chester Dzenowski and wife Lois of Austin, Walter Dzenowski of Lockhart, Billy Dzenowski and wife Hilda of Del Valle, Edmond Dzenowski of Leonard, and Frank Dzenowski of Del Valle.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. They were Sophie Wilhelm, Lucy Dzenowski, Teckla Dzenowski, Martin Dzenowski, Felix Dzenowski and Pete Dzenowski.
Mabel met and married her husband, John Russell Karstetter, during World War II. They started their family, which included eight children. They are Ann Ewald and late husband Robert of Lockhart, Ethel Goode of Lockhart, Edith Redford and husband Randall of New Braunfels, Gerald Karstetter and wife Cheryl of Manchaca, Dorothy Koehler and late husband Alton of New Braunfels, Floyd Karstetter and wife Nancy of Lago Vista, Katharine Turner and husband Jimmy of Taylorsville, and Diane Karstetter and husband James Hernandez of Lockhart.
There are 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2002. She will be greatly missed by many loving family members.
The Rosary was held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. The funeral service and mass were held on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 9:30 AM at the St. Mary”s Catholic Church in Lockhart,. Father Robert Becker conducted the funeral and mass. Immediately following the funeral and mass, Mabel will be laid to rest at the Polonia Cemetery, just outside of Lockhart.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Hutcheson, Joe Thompson, Randy Rice, Ethan Karstetter, Andrew Koehler, Russell Koehler and Ronnie Goode.
Arrangements under the care and guidance of McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan St.
