Manuel Barron, Jr., 76, of Westlake passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1937, to Manuel Barron, Sr., and Eloisa Murillo Barron in Lockhart, Texas. He attended Lockhart High School and graduated in 1958, then attended the University of Texas for three years. Mr. Barron was a member of the Texas National Guard Infantry from January 1957 through Decembe

r 1965, returning in August 1976 and retiring in 1989.

Manuel began working as a Superintendent of Postal Operations at the Lockhart Post Office in 1967. He was an active member of St. John Neumann, a member of Knights of Columbus, Usher, Greeter, and Money Counter. Manuel enjoyed gardening, traveling, mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. He would always say, “If you want anything done, You have to do it yourself.”

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Valentin (died at age 4); and sisters, Susie Hernandez and Mary Lillian Rocha.

Manuel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lydia Barron; daughters, Lisa Demarets, and Celeste Barron; grandchild, Simone Demarets; siblings, Johnny and Eloisa Barron, Mary Alice Olivo, and Connie Tello.

Funeral Mass was held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. Interment was Friday, July 4, 2014 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
