Melvin H. Bain, Jr., 92, of Luling, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Texan Nursing and Rehab of Gonzales, Texas. He was born on Oct. 24, 1923 in Fayetteville, Ark., to Melvin H. Bain, Sr. and Rubye Hoffman Bain.
Melvin is survived by son, Don Melvin Bain, and his wife, Susan, of Devon, Pa.; son, Ken Bain and wife, Stacie, of Santa Fe, Texas; brother, D

avid Harold Bain, Sr. of Center, Texas; and sister Mary Wendland, of New Braunfels, Texas. Melvin has one granddaughter, Lauren Bain, of Devon, Pa.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Lura Glynn Mercer Bain, after 65 years of marriage. Melvin is also survived by many close friends and extended family, too numerous to mention.
Prior to his marriage, Melvin served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from DuPont after a 35-year career at DuPont’s plant in Victoria, Texas, and started a new career running a Beefmaster cattle ranch with Lura Glynn for an additional 26 years. Throughout his life he loved working with his intellect, humor, and hands in the chemical plant and around the ranch. With Lura Glynn’s design help, Melvin handcrafted their beautiful log home.
A special thank you to the Texan Nursing and Rehab center for their loving care and support, and to the aids and nurses that came in daily to receive an infectious smile from Melvin.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas on Friday, July 8. Funeral services for Melvin will also be at the McCurdy Funeral Home on Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. A short grave-side service will be held following at Luling City Cemetery in Luling, Texas.
