Meta Scott

Meta Scott

Meta “Granny” Scott, 91, of Thomas Hollow in Exeter, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, April 19, 2014.

Meta was born on July 22, 1922, the daughter of Robert and Telka (Koehler) Schmidt, in Creedmoor, Texas. She was united in marriage to Robert C. Scott in September 1945, in Uhland, Texas; he preceded her in death in 1983.

They lived in Austin, Texas until May of 1980 when they moved to Shell Knob, Mo., to make their home.

Meta was an avid gardener, known far and wide for her lake patio full of flowers every summer. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading, but her passion was music and dancing.

Meta spent several years working in the Shell Knob Library and was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob. She was a founding member of the SOLO’s (Society Of Lively Oldsters) in Shell Knob.

It was through SOLO’s she met Karl Koos, who was a large part of her life for 20 years until his passing in 2005. In 2007 she moved to Thomas Hollow to be near her family. She was matriarch of our family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son, Bob Scott, of Kansas City; her daughter, Beverly Scott Wardlaw and her husband, George, of Exeter; three grandchildren, Caleb Wardlaw and his wife, Alisen, Benjamin Wardlaw and his wife, Brandi, and Joshua Wardlaw; five great-grandchildren: Clara Wardlaw, Grayson Wardlaw, Ruthie Jane Wardlaw, Huxley Wardlaw, and Roland Wardlaw; her beloved dog, Vixie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elroy Schmidt, Robert Schmidt and Weldon Schmidt, and one sister, Vera Schuenemann.

At a later date memorial services will be held for her immediate family both in Thomas Hollow, and in Texas, where she was born.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Barry County Library and entrusted to the White Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, Mo., 65625.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
