Nancy Nell Carlton was born April 6, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas to Melvin Walter (M.W.) and Nanabel Carlton. Nancy had two siblings, Anita and Walter. She attended schools in Yoakum, Nixon, Lockhart, the A.C.C. Academy at Abilene, and graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, as well as a Master”s degree. Before s

he retired, she taught in a number of Texas schools, as well as in California.

Nancy met Frank Weiss while she was at SWTSC and he was stationed at Camp Gary with the Air Corps. They married on March 26, 1948, at her parents” home.

After retiring, Nancy returned to the family farm on Seawillow Road near Lockhart. She loved caring for her miniature horses, and one could always find her feeding baby squirrels, raccoons, stray cats and dogs, and her favorite, Orville the sugar glider.

She inherited the love of plants from her dad, and she loved to walk on the hill by the house that was covered by wildflowers in the spring. In September, she enjoyed the September lilies in the yard. She also loved dancing, both ballroom and country western. She won several awards in various competitions. Nancy also enjoyed sewing and crafts with her family receiving the fruits of her work!

Nancy is survived by her brother, Walter Carlton, of Lindale; daughter, Beverly and husband Derel Conley; son, Carl and wife, Laverne; daughter, Mary Lynn Weiss; son, Curt Weiss and wife, Janet; and son, Collin Weiss and wife, Martha. She was loved by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family is thankful for the loving care she was given at Sodalis Memory Care in Buda, as well as the kindness of Compassion Care Hospice.

Services were held at McCurdy”s Funeral Home on Feb. 5. Pastor Russell Allen of Austin led the service. Burial was at Lockhart City Cemetery.
