Norma Jeanne Kelley Howard, of Dallas, Texas passed away on Oct. 15, 2016, at the age of 90. She was born on Aug. 2, 1926, in Lockhart, Texas to Mary Zelma Fortune and Howard Harley Kelley.

Norma grew up in Lockhart surrounded by a large and loving extended family. After graduating from Lockhart High School, she moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas. She soon met

and married her husband of 65 years, John Darvin Howard in 1948. John and Norma had a wonderful life together, living first in several small Texas towns and then Oklahoma City, Denver, Dallas, Midland and Houston.

Norma was a very talented and creative person who spent countless hours playing the piano, sewing and mastering a number of artistic projects, all accomplished while raising her two children. She was a very dedicated and active member of Spring Woods United Methodist Church in Houston, serving as chairwoman of the Holiday Bazaar and volunteering on many women’s committees.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her grandson Darren Tremblay. She is survived by one son, J. Kelley Howard and wife, Susan, of Plano, Texas; one daughter, Gayle Tremblay and husband, Roger, of Dallas, Texas; one brother, William H. Kelley and wife, Barbara, of Seguin, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Howard and wife, Sue, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Edgar Howard and wife, Dee, of Houston, Texas; one sister-in-law, Peggy Kelley, of Lockhart, Texas; two granddaughters, Anna Dvorak and husband, Asad Kirmani, of Austin, Texas and Sarah Cordett, of Orange, Calif.; one grandson, Jeff Howard, of Plano, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Will and Zoe Cordett, both of Orange, Calif., and Sonya Kirmani of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas. Services will be in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Lockhart City Cemetery.
