Norman Buford Chambliss, 85, of Dale, Texas, passed away March 6, 2016 at the Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos.  Norman was born Oct. 16, 1930, in Dale, Texas to Leonard Alexander Chambliss and Velma Ann Martin Chambliss.
His father worked in the oilfield and he spent much of his younger years in the Darst Creek Area.  He graduated from Dowdy High School.  Some of

his favorite memories were of playing basketball and six-man football at Dowdy High.  He then went to Southwest Texas State Teachers College for three years.  He then, along with his brother, Gene Chambliss, joined the United States Air Force.  He served stateside for four years as an aircraft mechanics instructor during the Korean Conflict.
While he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, he and a friend made trips to Vernon, Texas.  During one of those visits he met Georgia Mae Line at a soda shop.  They got married June 5, 1954.  During his time in the Air Force and the beginning of his career as a civilian instructor with the United States Air Force, he and Georgia added three daughters to their family.
Norman’s career with the Civil Service led him and Georgia to many places.  Besides living in Texas, they lived in Louisiana, South Carolina, Georgia and Oklahoma.  He and Georgia considered it an adventure to live all of these different places, and it sparked their love of traveling.  He finished his career in Altus, Okla., where he taught jet engine mechanics for the C141 and the C5.  During their time in Altus, he served as an elder at the Thomas Street Church of Christ where he was active in the bus ministry.
He retired in 1979.  At that time he and Georgia moved to Dale, Texas.  He was a faithful member of the Lockhart Church of Christ.  While attending there he enjoyed taking communion to the shut-ins and nursing homes for many years.  During his retirement years he did custom hay baling and lots of traveling with Georgia.  One of Norman and Georgia’s favorite activities was to take trips to Lake City, Colo., to ride ATVs on the Alpine Loop.
Norman is survived by his wife, Georgia Mae Chambliss, of Dale, Texas.   He is also survived by one brother, Gene Chambliss, of Dale; two daughters, Karen Buckner and her husband, Billy Ray, of Lockhart and Beverly Killebrew and her husband, Larry, of Beggs, Okla.; four grandchildren: Amber Fletcher and her husband, Mike, of Goose Creek, S.C., Todd Goucher and his wife, Kayla, of Boiling Springs, S.C., Sarah Hallsted and her husband, Thomas, of Glenpool, Okla. and Amanda Killebrew, of Beggs, Okla.  He has ten great-grandchildren: Camryn, Cason, Callen and Caden Fletcher, Nathan, Taygen and Emilie Goucher, Lily and Carson Hallsted and Ryder Killebrew.  He is greatly missed by his riding companion, his white Border Collie, Princess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Velma Chambliss and twin daughters, Norma Jean and Carma Dean Chambliss.
His services were Friday, March 11, 2016 at the McCurdy Funeral Home.  He is buried at Bunton Cemetery in Dale, Texas.
