Norman D. Martindale, 68, went to be with the Lord Oct. 9, 2014. He was born Feb. 5, 1946. in San Antonio. He grew up between Martindale and Lockhart and graduated from Lockhart High School.
He went to Sul Ross, grew to love West Texas and the Big Bend Country. He graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts. He taught Industrial Arts in San Antonio for one

year and taught Driver’s Education after school. He went to work for the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service training under the County Executive Director (CED) in Tilden.
He moved to Carrizo Springs as CED and retired after 42 years.
Four things were very important to Norman: reading the newspaper every day, his cows, his dogs and many trips to Big Bend and West Texas. His dogs were strays, found on the side of the road skinny and mangy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mildred; and his only brother, Wesley.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Faye; cousins Bonnie Longcope (Ed) and Gayle Buckner (Kay).
Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Merz, Homer Martin, Bro. Chris Johnson, Frankie Galaway, Brian Hanson, Don Kropp, Steve Pawelek, Joe Ayers, Harold Lansford, Monte Moore, Leroy Jones, Jackson Tollett, Joe Hargrove, John Wardlaw, Dennis Huber, Bryan Ammann, Mike Kirk, Jon Taylor, Joe Sid Thomas, Robert Lee Thomas, Jim Castellaw and David Seydel.
Burial was held on Monday, Oct. 13 at the Martindale Texas Cemetery. A celebration of Norman’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in Carrizo Springs at the First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 706 W. Houston, Carrizo Springs, Texas, 78834, “Old Church Restoration Fund” or the charity of your choice.
