Ora Rubelle “Sis” Fisher, of Lockhart, died on Nov. 21, 2009. She was born on Jan. 20, 1920, in Rowena, Texas, to Anis and Roy Stacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morgan “Doc” Fisher; and her brothers, Vernon, Danley and Virgil Stacy.

Sis is survived by one brother, Lowell Stacy, of Marble Falls; two daughters, JoAnn Gibson and

husband, David, of Lafayette, La., and Barbara Louise Robertson and husband, John, of Salado; grandchildren: Richard Morgan Gibson, of Lafayette, La., John Robertson, III., and wife, Carol, of Dubai, and Stacy Robertson Brown and husband, Alex Brown, of Atlanta. She was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Kieran, Neve and Grace Robertson and Kelsey Taylor Brown.

A source of inspiration to all that knew her, she was an example of making the world a better place by volunteering.

Sis was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother, who served her God, her church and her community faithfully. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a member of Christian Ministries.

She also volunteered her time with the Lockhart Hospital Auxiliary, MHMR, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society – Reach for Recovery, the Cartwheel Lodge / Chisolm Trail Nursing and Rehab Center, the VFW Auxiliary, the Caldwell County United Way and the Extension Homemakers. She was instrumental in the restoration of the Caldwell County Courthouse and converting the old jail into a county museum. She was a board member of the Texas Hospital Association, Farmers Home Administration, Senior Citizens Apartments and SALT. For all her many hours of volunteering, she was honored as the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce’s Most Worthy Citizen in 1981, and won the Governor’s Award in 1982.

Sis was also known for her handcrafts and cooking, having taken home many ribbons for both. Bowling was a sport she enjoyed for many years, competing in tournaments throughout Texas. She also enjoyed oil painting and was a member of the Lockhart Art Guild.
She enjoyed all her associations, but visiting her friends or anyone in need was at the top of her list. She will always be remembered as a gentle and loving person.

Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel in Lockhart.

In lieu of flowers, Sis requested memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
