Pete J. Bonkowski, age 99, died Friday May 30, 2014 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lockhart, Texas. Pete was born in Lockhart, Texas on March 30, 1915, to John Bonkowski and Rosa Dziernowski.
He attended school in Mendoza and Lytton Springs, Texas.
He was a farmer all of his adult life and was a down to earth, “you get what you see,” unpretensive ind

ividual who enjoyed living an uncomplicated life. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, was an usher, and for many years a faithful caretaker of the Polonia Cemetery. He was the principal caregiver to his mother and father and his sister, Geneva, in their later life.
Prior to WWII he served in the Army National Guard unit in Lockhart. He also served in the US Navy aboard the USS Elusive in the southwest Pacific during the WWII era.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, two brothers and six sisters. He was never married and is survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 205 W. Pecan St., Lockhart, Texas from 9 – 10 a.m. on June 3, 2014, followed by recitation of the rosary and funeral service. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Polonia, Texas
The family would like express their thanks and gratitude to the staffs and personnel of the Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion during Pete’s stay in residence.
