Refugio Munoz Baltierra, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on Nov. 28, 2013, at the age of 81. He was born on July 4, 1932, in Fentress, Texas, to Samuel and Gumersinda (Munoz) Baltierra.

Refugio was a caring father and grandfather. Refugio served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received many medals while in the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; hi

s son, Bobby Baltierra; three brothers, Joe, Antonio and Andres Baltierra; and sister, Rosa Valdez. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Trinidad C. Baltierra. Refugio is survived by nine children, five sons: Vincent Baltierra (Kim), from Michigan, Jimmy Baltierra, of Austin, Danny Baltierra, of Houston, Hector Baltierra (Debbie), of Austin, and Ruben Baltierra (Rebecca), of Georgia; four daughters: Diane Barker (Clay), of Elgin, Frances Hubbard (David), of Austin, Maryann Rocha (Henry), of Buda, and Sylvia Vasquez (Jessie) of Florida; three brothers: Thomas Baltierra, of Lockhart, Victor Baltierra, of Lockhart, and John Baltierra (Esther), of Austin; one sister, Concha Juarez, of Lockhart, 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at McCurdy Funeral Home, from 6 – 8 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013. Mass of a Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart, with the Rev. Alberto Borruel, Celebrant. Interment will follow at San Pablo Cemetery.
