Robert “Bob” Leslie Allen, 78 of Beaufort, S.C., and Mattapoisett Mass., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, MA following extended illness.
Born Jan. 11, 1934 in Waco, Texas, he was the son of the late Ferrell and Beulah (Jeffrey) Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Allen.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, had
a fulfilling, progressive 30-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration, and subsequent mini-careers with AT&T and RVA.
Surviving immediate family members include Ann Marie (Alden) Allen, and two daughters, Leslie Ann Allen, of New Bern, N.C., and Charlotte “Charlee” Hoshour, of Matthews, N.C.
Most often described as a “really nice guy,” he will be remembered for his intellect, high values and dedication to his family and friends. He enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and pondering conspiracy theories.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Mattapoisett.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project.
It is said that a Texan wanders the world during adulthood, but always returns home to Texas at journey’s end.
