Robert “Bob” William Boord, 43, died tragically on Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Bastrop County, Texas.

Bob was the youngest of five children and the family’s first “native Texan.”

He was born on Aug. 12, 1965, in San Antonio to James Albert and Virginia (Yoders) Boord of Universal City, Texas, both of whom are deceased. He married his high school sw

eetheart, Rhonda Lee Morton, on March 19, 1986 in Bexar County, and although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained friends.

Robert married Mary Ruth Whitehead, of Lytton Springs, on Oct. 2, 1993 in Travis County, Texas.

Bob worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in Austin, was the father of four beautiful children, loved being with his family and friends, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and always had a smile on his face. Family and friends describe him as fun-loving, kind, hardworking, and an overall fine man. He will be deeply missed by the many people who loved him.

He is survived by his estranged wife, Mary Ruth Boord and their daughters, Emily and Rachel, and son, Ian, all of Smithville, Texas; former wife, Rhonda Lee Morton, and their daughter, Barbara Lee Swanson and husband, Harry, of Wisconsin; sisters, Sandra Henry and husband, Jeff, of Rocksprings, Texas, Connie Ditlevson and husband, Ed, of Wasilla, Alaska, Patty Boord, of Fentress, and her ex-husband, Mike Gainey, of Lytton Springs; brother, James Alan Boord and wife, Torrie, of Universal City; uncle, Edward R. Boord and wife, Evelyn; aunt, Virginia Schiffbauer, of Carmichaels, Pa.; and eight cousins, their children and grandchildren.

The loss of their beloved “Uncle Bobby” is also deeply mourned by four nieces and three nephews and their families: Tammy Palmer and husband, Scott, and Sherrie Elson and husband, Joel, all of Wasilla, Alaska, Keri Wittie and husband, Michael, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Sarah Rodriguez and husband, Alan, currently stationed in England; James Michael Boord, of Wisconsin, Clayton J. Gainey and wife, Carley, and Maxwell R. Gainey, all of Lytton Springs.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Marr-Jones Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Jane Johnson. A reception followed at the First Presbyterian Church in Smithville, Texas.
