Ruby Williams, long-time resident of Lockhart, passed away July 8, 2014. Born in the east Texas town of Bedias, she was living in Houston when she met and married G.P. “Bill” Williams. They moved to Lockhart in 1949 and made it their home for the rest of their lives. Bill and Ruby joined the United Methodist Church shortly after coming to Lockhart and many will remember her

through their association with the church, as one of the moms on Prairie Lea Street, or as their kindergarten teacher in their early years.

She was also active in the family’s businesses including the hardware store located on the square and later at the welding shop location at Blanco and Hwy. 183. Shortly after Bill passed away in 2003, Ruby moved from their home on Silent Valley Road to the Personal Care facility at the former Golden Age Home. It later became necessary for her care to be provided by the nursing facility, which became Parkview. The family extends their most sincere appreciation to the staffs, both past and present, of those facilities for the loving care they provided during those years, through her final day. A highlight of her last few years was celebrating her 90th birthday in 2011. We also thank all of her family and friends who helped make that a special day by either sending greetings or attending the reception that was held in her honor.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Brown, of Austin; son, Paul Williams and his wife, Logene of Arvada, Colo.; grandsons, Rob Brown, of Los Angeles, Calif., Reggie Brown, of Houston, and Lee Williams and wife, Carol, of Edwards, Colo., as well as great-grandchildren Holly and Zach Williams, also of Edwards.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Lockhart, Texas with Pastor Doug Foster and Pastor Morse Roecker officiating. Burial will follow at Clearfork Cemetery in Caldwell County, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Ruby’s memory to the United Methodist Church, Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, the Clearfork Cemetery Association, or the charitable organization of your choice. All arrangements with Eeds Funeral Home, 408 S. Main St., Lockhart, Texas. (512) 398-2343. To view and sign the guestbook, visit www.post-register.com/obituaries/ruby-williams.

    Cheryl and Paul,

I was saddened to hear of your mom’s passing, but I can’t help thinking how happy she is now to be with Bill. She missed him sooo much. I often think of the time I spent with her when we were neighbors–yakking while we burned trash outside, her giving me haircuts, etc. I loved having her as a neighbor and friend. –Anna

    Dear Paul,

I remember our 2nd grade picture in the “Easter hats”, and visiting you at your home in the country. I had a great time and your mother was so gracious.

DeeDee’s and my thoughts and prayers are with you and Cheryl.

I remember how incredibly sweet your mom was the day Logene and you brought her to our home in Conroe for a visit. I could feel her spirit of kindness and love. Cheryl and you have been very blessed! I know how difficult it is to lose your mom and the last parent. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God bless and keep you during this time.
