William “Bill” Robinson
William F. “Bill” Robinson, 88, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Lockhart.
Bill, the only child of Frederick and Lelia (Carpenter) Robinson, was born at home on Dec. 13, 1917, in Post, Texas, in a creamy yellow house in the south of town. When he was 8 years old, Bill”s family moved to a house out in the country, n
ear the old Garza County Fairgrounds, which Bill”s parents owned. Bill and his family were an integral part of Post”s heritage and he had many stories to tell of his family”s history there and in other parts of the American West.
In his sophomore year of high school, Bill slipped and severely injured his leg, resulting and a number of operations to repair the damage. His mother cared for him and, after a lengthy recovery, he began studying at Texas Tech in 1937, taking classes during the fall and spring semesters and working in the PostTex Cotton Mill during the summer months. In 1938, he began the rigorous training required to become a fireman, the person responsible for regulating the steam and oil to the locomotive train engine, on the Santa Fe Railroad.
But before he went to work in the railroad industry, Bill volunteered to join the United States Army Air Force in October of 1942. He was stationed in Lubbock and worked as an air traffic controller during World War II. After learning that he would not be sent overseas, Bill married Erma Juaniece Serratt on Dec. 3, 1943.
In the early 1950s, Bill began working in the oil fields owned by the Brown Brothers in Post until 1968, when he went to work as a Safety Inspector and Fire and Explosion Investigator for the State of Texas Railroad Commission. He moved his family to Lockhart and continued to work for the Railroad Commission until he retired in 1972 to pursue ranching, real estate and other interests. He was a deacon of the First Lockhart Baptist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Lelia Robinson, and by one grandson, Jeffrey Orlein.
He is survived by his son, Stacy Robinson and wife Peggy of Lockhart; his daughters, Argan Fulcher and husband Richard of Richardson, Arleta Cornelius of Burnet and Nancy Meece and husband Don of New Mexico; his grandchildren, Vanessa Fulcher, Lisa Green, Angie Sheets, Laura Cook, Jenna Robinson and Breck Robinson; and his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Bailey, Mercy Sheets, Zaden Sheets and Austin Cook.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the First Lockhart Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Rodgers and Rev. Jason Jones officiating. A second funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Hudman Funeral Home in Post. Bill was laid to rest with military honors in Terrace Cemetery in Post.

We miss you so much, Daddy. Argan and Richard moved to Arkansas, near Vanessa and her husband. Nancy and Don are moving back home from HI in Oct, and I’m about to move from Kingsland to be nearer my sweet daughter, Lisa, in New Braunfels, God willing. Stacy is married to a beauty named Linda. He’s a grandfather now, since Jenna had a baby boy almost a year ago. He’s so adorable.
We all still mourn your passing, and speak of you in love, often. We know you’re now in your perfect, young body, and bathing in the glorious light of our King. We all can’t wait to see you on the other side. Your legacy of raising us to be all we can be for God is still keeping us on the right path. I love you, Daddy. I need a hug and miss your wisdom and love in daily life here. Until we meet again, keep us lifted up. You are precious.
