William Dan Crider, Sr.
William Dan Crider, Sr., was born March 16, 1930, to Daniel Webster and Ruby Ruth (Nipps) Crider, in Aransas Pass, Texas. He is survived by his wife Norma Jean (Butler) Crider, to whom he was married for 51 years. To them were born six children, three sons and three daughters, three grandsons, four granddaughters and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his daughters
Ruby Jean Crider of San Marcos, Jennifer Anne (Crider) Huggins and family of Lockhart, and Barbara Elaine Crider of Dale; his sons, William Dan Crider, Jr., Karl Eugene Crider and Matthew T. Crider, all of Lockhart; his grandsons, Michael Wayne Crider, William and Christopher Huggins of Lockhart; his granddaughters, Kimberly Annie (Harlow Crider) Borders of San Marcos, Ashley Jean Harlow of Gonzales, Cynthia Marie Crider of Lockhart and Breanna Huggins of Lockhart; and his great-grandson, Raiden Lane Borders of San Marcos.
William was the eldest of 10 children and is survived by five brothers and three sisters, James F. Crider of Bateman, Ace Mack of Lytton Springs, Harvey Lands, Roger Dale and Ronnie L. Crider of Kerrville, Paulina Belle Bull and Shirley Crider, of San Antonio and Mary Choate of Deer Park.
As a young boy, Bill, as he is known by all his friends, had many things to learn and master. Among the most important were his fishing adventures, his love for nature and his desire to learn music. He knew the secret to catch the bait he needed to go fishing, when no one else could catch them even though others had the most expensive rod and reels.
Taking his family to the coast and teaching them the secret of being a true master of being a good fisherman was always a special event for all who participated. Bill knew the coast like the back of his hand, so each visit involved a history lesson, as well.
Growing up, Bill also developed an ear for music. He taught himself how to play a fiddle, guitar, banjo, harmonica and just about anything he set his mind to. His favorites were Bluegrass, Country and Gospel. His son, William Dan, Jr., learned to play the guitar; his daughter, Jennifer, plays the banjo to carry on their father”s tradition.
Bill was 20 years old when he enlisted in the Army, during the Korean War, in 1950.
William met his wife, Norma Jean, in Hondo, Texas, on Feb. 4, 1955. Three weeks and three days later, they were married, on Feb. 28, 1955, in Uvalde, Texas.
Bill and his wife moved to Lockhart on June 4, 1966, where his family still resides. They raised six children, all of whom attended Lockhart schools. As a Master Plumber, he also learned the trade of Water Well Pump Technician, serving the people of Caldwell County very well.
There are many things that could be said about William “Bill” Crider – what a good person he was, a good father and a good husband. We all will surely miss him.
William passed away on Monday, April 10, 2006.
Visitation was held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2006, at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2006, at McCurdy Memorial Chapel with Rev. Derald Dugger officiating. Interment followed in Bunton Cemetery.
