Yvonne Masur Stegall, 77, of Austin, passed away on Feb. 20, 2014.

She was born in Lockhart on Aug. 21, 1936 to Henry Lea and Rena Pearl Masur. Yvonne graduated from Lockhart Senior High in 1954. After travelling the world for several years as a military spouse, Yvonne graduated from Southwest Texas State University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Education

. She was married to the late John Stegall for 20 years, living in Beaumont, before returning to Austin, upon John’s retirement from the U.S. Army. Yvonne was a very proud military wife.

Yvonne taught school for many years, retiring from Lake Travis ISD as a kindergarten teacher. Yvonne had a passion for making a difference in the lives of her students and was often sought out by students who had graduated from high school to say hello and thank you. Yvonne and John loved music and were wonderful dancers. They travelled the world to enjoy different types of music and dancing, sharing the experience with friends and family. Yvonne was involved with philanthropic events and was a member of the Lions Club along with her husband.

One of Yvonne’s greatest loves was being a grandmother, and she was a great influence in their lives. She spent holidays with her grandchildren, teaching them the love of playing in the sun, picnic lunches, enjoying the company of a person while laughing and sharing stories and creating a holiday atmosphere. Additionally, she loved family and friend time at the beach.

She is survived by her two children, Thom Jackson and Linda Henry (Scott), of London, England, and her brother Hank Masur (Betty). In addition, she is survived by her step-children: Kelly Andrews, John W. Stegall(Nicole) and the late Tony Stegall. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Noelle, Sydney and Samuel Henry, Jeremy Hines and Faith Richerson (Peter); and great-grandchildren: Scout, Ella, Scarlett, Hannah and Liam; nieces and nephews: David, Darren Masur (Courtney), Marshall Masur (Janice), Laura D’Lee Brown (Scotty), D’Lynn Trammell (Mike), and Larea Salcedo (Mathew); and grand-nieces and nephews: Tyler, Davin, Dalen, Rheagen, Rhyan, Blake, Maddie, Hannah, Kendall, Mallory, Lilly and Alex.

A memorial service to celebrate Yvonne’s life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lockhart, Texas (120 N. Commerce). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jesse “Red” Burditt Scholarship Fund, Lockhart High School, Lockhart, Texas.
