To the Editor:

I would like to thank Lockhart’s respective barbecue restaurants for donating to the Hurricane Relief efforts this past weekend. Thanks to Blacks, Chisholm Trail, Kreuz’s and Smitty’s, we passed out some 250 sausages.

Thanks to Bobby and Andrea Brown for their assistance and also Reggie Brown, who helped in serving.

Thanks,

Bruce Scott

Lockhart, Texas

To the Editor:

Thank you, Lockhart!

Our community worked together, and is continuing to work cooperatively, to quickly raise money and supplies to aid survivors of Hurricane Harvey. At First Christian Church an idea was suggested late Monday afternoon and by Wednesday afternoon there was a line extending out to the street of people waiting to donate and to get a couple of tacos.

The support came not only from individuals. HEB donated meat for the tacos. Mineral Springs Baptist Church called and wanted to help. Strangers dropped by making contributions. People brought items to donate. From the taco donation supper $2,267 has been donated to the American Red Cross.

Mineral Springs Baptist Church took some of the donated supplies to Rockport and Port Aransas. On Saturday, 10 Clean Up Kits, five-gallon buckets filled with a specific list of supplies, were delivered to Houston for distribution; fifteen personal hygiene kits and some other items were loaded into the church van and taken to Houston. Among the other items was a last-minute gift of 45 dozen eggs.

Local community leaders, including elected political leaders, clergy from other congregations, and a huge support from our neighbors made this act of generous support possible. I consider it a privilege to get to serve a church in this great community.

Sunday, Sept. 17, the Lockhart Ministerial Alliance is sponsoring a community-wide Helping Hands service at the First Baptist Lockhart Connection Center, 315 W. Prairie Lea, at 3 p.m. all proceeds received will be donated to those persons affected by Hurricane Harvey.
