Parent blasts LISD for coaching choices

To the Editor:

Guess what Lockhart. We will yet again be getting a new head coach at Lockhart High School. Our illustrious Superintendent decided that an adjustment to the football program needed to be made. Why he did not start with the Athletic Director is beyond me, but the head coach is where Mr. Parra chose to begin.

I just wanted to write this letter to any potentia

l new Head Coach that is looking at Lockhart.

First, let me warn all coaches interested in Lockhart High School – it doesn’t matter if you have a winning season and take the team to the playoffs, or if you have a losing season; if you can make it past three or four years in Lockhart then you are a legend!

Also, as the new head coach you will have to learn how to appease the school board – most especially if a board member’s child plays on your team. If, as the new coach, you are able to satisfy the board most of the time, then you will have to listen to coaching strategies from the superintendent, who by the way, asked one day if “the purpose of the game was to score the most points.”

But most importantly for the new coach to know, by no means should you be a good guy. Don’t you dare teach the football boys to play as a team. Don’t show them how to win gracefully or how to have integrity when they are losing. Don’t explain to the boys that being a team is about everyone and not just about one or two superstars.

Also, and most importantly for the new coach to know and understand, please, don’t genuinely care about the boys on your team. Your predecessors have done all of these things and have not been allowed to stay.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that you will also be blessed with several parents in this community who have great football knowledge and they will inform you constantly about what plays you should and should not run. I’m sure many of them would coach the team for you if you would only ask.

God Bless and Good Luck!

So, one has to wonder where this attitude was during all year long Chisolm Trail Roundup parade events? You couldn’t even get a carpool out of this lady. Play as a team? Really? Geez.

Are YOU sure you know who Charlene Tiner is???? She doesn’t have the word “no” in her vocabulary when it comes to helping others!

Before this conversation goes any further, let’s please remember to keep it civil. We welcome discussion of ideas and thoughts expressed by others – which naturally will occasionally include some individual criticism. However, we will not allow a forum for ongoing discussion of personalities. Both of these posts are well within our commenting guidelines, but if there is further discussion about Mrs. Tiner as an individual, these comments will be removed.

Civil? Really? Kathy Bliss, the editor of this paper doesn’t have a civil bone in her body that I know of. And when you are new to town and you write a letter to the editor about a local politician she will make you take every thing out until your point is completely eliminated. That is my personal experience. I could do a better job than her and she knows it!!!

I have be watching and reading about Lockhart my home town since i have been in college getting my degree. I always wanted to come back to Lockhart and teach and maybe coach but since Monsen left Lockhart is back to its same old ways and i dont think i would let my kids go to LISD because if they dont want to keep a coach that is teaching kids ther is more to life than just football we are sending a bad message. I dont even what to say i went to Lockhart High School any more.

Kudos! Hit the nail on the head. Mr. Parra should have started with the AD. Great reflection on the “majority” of the community of Lockhart. Parents let’s respect our coaches/teachers. Let’s start teaching our children & community how to work as a team.

wellll, Mrs. Tiner is completely right. you cant build a bond with any of the coaches at our school because A)they end up leaving us or B) they’re forced to leave for dumb reasons. The reasons they give our coaches for having to leave dont EVER make sense..in other words why not just say”we are replacing you because we dont like you, or you didnt allow us too win enough games..OR my most favorite of all YOU didnt play the child with the parents that gave the most.which is completely unfair when it comes down to the students that are a hell of a lot bettter and put in twice as much work. But when you have the right last name thats all that matters..work ethic is not a factor..to the “READER” above i wonder just how much you have done as a parent to be apart of the problems..

its a shamee when the directors cant stand up for themselves and let it be known when parents need to know their places..which is “IN THE STANDS”unfortunately they never want their voices heard till their child doesnt get the amount of playing time they THINK they’ve earned..

Problem#1:lockhart is all politics and the sooner we ALLOW someone to come in and do their job the better off we’ll be. i play 3 differrent sports and have seen a little bit of it all cuz unfortunately and almost sad to say im an Lockhart athlete.

all respect to you mrs. Tiner for voicing your opinion as a parent and making it count when us children need it most.<3

To “Student”, The most parents can do is their job, and do it well. What we cannot do is the job of other parents who were just as responsible for participating in community organizations and events. It is not always easy to pick up the slack from a parent who refuses to communicate and make arrangements for a team as a whole, and who prefers to focus on just one team member. It’s the same Lockhart mentality you see more and more, “Either do it my way or we won’t do it at all”.

LOCKHART’S COACHING STAFF IS A JOKE. IT’S NOT HOW HARD YOU WORK OR HOW GOOD THE PLAYER IS. IT IS HOW WELL YOU KNOW THE HEAD COACH. PLAYERS WHO MAKE DUMB PLAYS AND MAKE MISTAKES THROUGHOUT THE SEASON WERE ALLOWED TO PLAY BECAUSE OF WHO THEY WERE AND WHO THEIR FREINDS ARE OFF THE FIELD. THIS IS WRONG AND THE COACHES KNOW IT WETHER THEY WANT TO ADMIT IT OR NOT.

I know im late here but yall are all crazy, except for the ex student and the current one. All towns are the same, its who you know…not what you know. Wait, thats life…wow what a concept. Yall parents do the same thing at your work place, kiss up to the ones in charge so you can get a better position. Coaches have underlying issues as well, if they don’t please they have to to leave. Parents just play the game!! It aint the x’s and o’s its the jimmies and joes!!! Nuff said!!

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again. Too bad Daniel Law is such a good Sheriff. He would make an excellent High School Head Football Coach! Maybe, someday when he retires… He definitely would make a better coach than a he is a singer! By far!!

i have lived in lockhart for over twenty years and have yet to see a winning football team from this school. lockhart high school on awhole is a joke. but yet has the potential, if the superintendent and the school board would mind their own business. am still waiting to someday see this football team go to state and win.

I’ve lived here most of my life and graduated from Lockhart. Sad to say, but Charlene is right! The Superintendent, Ahletic Director and the School Board are a complete joke! We just lost a good coach!
When is the revolving door going to stop? We were on the right path with our coach, learning, and winning as a team! Apparently, our coach didnt believe in kissing peoples butts!

I guess the Superintendent and Athletic Director wont stop until Lockhart High is similar to an East Austin school that no sane teacher or coach will want to work at!
