Ray LaVell Miller Winn Walker Alumbaugh is resting peacefully in eternity with our Lord. She was an inspiration to all who loved her and took care of her during her diligent battle with Fibromyalgia, Dementia and Parkinson’s.

LaVell was born in Lampasas, Texas, on July 9, 1937, to Raymond Miller and Nellie Anne Cook Miller who precede her in death. Her beloved brother, Cal

vin Loren Miller, also precedes her in death.

LaVell is survived by her son, Bradley Vance Winn and his wife, LaVonne Winn, of Leesville, SC., and her daughter, Cara Winn Murray and her husband, Jeff Murray of Magnolia. Six grandchildren: Christopher Bradley Winn, Anthony Charles Winn and Matthew Ray Winn, Lauren Nicole Murray, Leslie Anne Murray and Lindsay Elizabeth Murray also survive.

LaVell was a dedicated educator and administrator for 36 years. She obtained her degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College and her Master’s degree and Administrative Certification from Southwest Texas State University. She began her teaching career in Navarro ISD and then moved to San Marcos to teach Home Economics at San Marcos High School. She also taught third grade at Travis Elementary and then was an administrative and curriculum director for Bowie Elementary. She then became an administrator in the Lockhart ISD where she was the first principal of Plum Creek Elementary. While in Lockhart, Plum Creek Elementary was nominated for the Educational Excellence Committee by Governor William P. Clements.

Since retirement LaVell enjoyed travels to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and many visits to see her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing golf, tennis, bowling and playing games with the Alumbaugh family.

Funeral Services for LaVell were held Sunday May, 18 at 2 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
