Richard Edward Henderson, 70, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, after a brief illness. He was born on Aug. 27, 1936, in LaMont, Iowa.
Richard traveled the Midwest during his young life with the family entertainment business, the Lew Henderson Players. His travels became worldwide later when Richard served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army during th

e Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 222, and the International Association of Airborne Veterans. At age 50, he fulfilled a lifelong dream, traveling with this organization to Israel and participating in a troop jump to earn Israeli paratrooper wings. He was retired as a security officer for the Austin American-Statesman. He leaves behind many friends and family who will greatly miss his quiet strength, his easy laugh, and his never ending tales of the old days.
Richard was married to Kathleen Tims Winstead on June 25, 1982, in Dripping Springs, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Alice Foreman Henderson; and three sisters: Edna Ray, Annie Hockett and Ruth Swank.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Henderson; sons, Brian Winstead and wife Nicole of Austin, Aaron Henderson and wife Janice of Vernon, Texas, Ira Henderson and wife Deborah of Sacramento, Calif, and Andrew Henderson of Marquette, Mich; daughter, Sara Till of Lockhart; brother Lewis Henderson, Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Peggy MacDonald of New Braunfels, TX, Billie Schuller of Marquette, Mich., and Alice Roten of Dripping Springs; and six grandchildren, Garrett and Allison Till, Rhynn and Vaughn Winstead, and Krysta and Cole Henderson.
Visitation was held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007, at McCurdy Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Interment followed at Clearfork Cemetery in Lockhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd., Suite 100, Austin, Texas, 78759.
